Despite India’s drive towards increased renewable energy generation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a major segment of industrialapplications still depends on coal. The country’s coal production is poised to grow radically in the near future, primarily to meet high energy demands. This is expected to reduce dependency on coal imports.

However, India cannot give up on its coal imports as yet because the country does not have enough reserves of high-quality coking coal. Major coal importers such as Vinod Agarwal, MD of Agarwal Coal, play an integral role here – having imported over 15 million tonnes of coal from major markets such as Indonesia, China, South Africa, Thailand, etc.
