“I need to reflect. We will prepare to not play a game like this again.”

Yonsei defeated Myongji University 75-70 in the preliminary round of Group A of the 40th MBC National Collegiate Basketball Championship at Sangju Gymnasium on Nov. 19. With the two wins, Yonsei finished first in the group.

Yonsei is not guaranteed a spot in the final tournament. They can still be eliminated if they lose by 30 points or more in their final game against Dongguk University.

Yonsei won 100-52, a 48-point blowout, against Myongji University in the KBA. Given that, an easy win was expected.

However, it was a close game. They led by 10 points at one point in the third and fourth quarters, but were able to hold off a tenacious Myeongji University rally to secure the win.

After the win, Yonsei head coach Yoon Ho-jin said, “I have nothing to say. If we played a game like this because we did what we prepared and didn't make shots, or because our opponent prepared well and we couldn't respond, there would be no frustration. I said something bitter in practice yesterday (Nov. 18). The ease of thinking came out in practice, and I emphasized that. We gave away 19 free throws in the first half (18/19 in the first half for Myungji) and allowed easy baskets. I think we got complacent, and it showed in the game,” he said. ”At halftime, we talked about what we wanted to do, which was to attack the space on defense. “We didn't do that at all, because they played a very strong defense, and we didn't 파워볼사이트 execute. We didn't play the basketball we wanted to play at all, which made it a tough game for us.”

Ahn finished with five points and four rebounds as a starter, but he was instrumental in getting the team's offense going in the fourth quarter.

Coach Yoon Ho-jin said, “I was most worried about the energy sagging, so I wanted Ahn Sung-woo, who I trusted the most, to raise it from the first quarter. Sung-woo fulfilled what I wanted. “He has good strength, so when a small player blocks him, I prepared a post-up, and he executed it at the right time. I wish Sung-woo would make fewer unnecessary fouls. Other than the complacent fouls, he did a good job,” he said, reflecting on Ahn's play.

When asked why he used the single post and twin towers, Yoon said, “We tried to attack the high-probability part of the game when the opponent was fouling and the No. 4 (power forward) was small and not working well. We scored on free throws because they were fouled a lot,” he said. ”We practiced a lot with Lee Yoo-jin at the four to stretch the opponent's defense. It's frustrating that Choi Hyung-chan or Lee Joo-young can't attack the center. You have to watch the game video to see how they attack. I'm not disrespecting them, but I judged them easily. It was easy for me to see that they played like this. I trusted the players when they were in sync, but there was a stutter. I need to reflect. We will prepare to not play a game like this again.”

Yonsei will play its final match of the qualifiers on Nov. 21 against Dongguk University. If Dongguk defeats Yonsei, they will advance to the final tournament, but if they lose, they will be eliminated.

Coach Yoon Ho-jin said, “We've been fortunate once. If we were slack against Myungji University, we would have come out in the last game. “Dongguk University runs well,” he said, ”and I and the players will be awakened to avoid such games. We will have a meeting and prepare not to play the same game today (Nov. 19),” he vowed.
