Applications of Microarray Analysis 

Microarray is one of the newest technologies being used for the detection of cancer; it helps in pharmacological approaches to treat several diseases like oral cuts. Microarray supports in analyzing large quantities of samples which are either recorded before, or new samples; it even helps to test the frequency of a particular marker in tumors.  

A few years back, the usage of microarrays in dental medicine was limited, but now as they are becoming more and more affordable, and their usage is also increasing significantly. 

Abnormalities in genetic factor working can cause critical diseases. Research of many genes by traditional methods is nearly impossible. Microarray analysis helps in this regard. Several genetic factors can be analyzed at a point in time. 

Microarray analysis is way faster, cost-effective, accurate, and easy to analyze the design. Microarray analysis can be done for numerous macromolecules like proteins, DNA, and RNA, and also carbohydrates, enzymes, and tissues. The global demand for this technology will reach $9,011.1 million by 2030. 

What is DNA Microarray Analysis?  

Microarray analysis includes breaking of a cell, separating its genetic contents, classifying all the genetic factors that are turned on in that particular cell, and creating a list of those factors. DNA microarray analysis is a method that is used by scientists to regulate whether the genetic factor is on or off. 

Applications of Microarray Analysis in Cancer 

In Cancer 

The formation of tumor includes instantaneous changes in thousands of cells and alterations in a DNA segment. The microarray can be a bonus to scientists as it offers a platform for real-time testing of a large set of genetic trials. It particularly helps in the identification of single-nucleotide polymorphisms and mutations, tumor positioning, identification of cancer biomarkers, identification of genes associated with chemoresistance, identification of target genetic factors of tumor suppressers, and drug discovery.  

Antibiotic treatment 

The increasing number of resistant bacteria and superadded infections has led to the inefficiency of antibiotics. Virulency of the bacteria affects the result of the disease development. In the oral cavity where anaerobic bacteria may be the infective agents, they generally are not simply destructible, especially organisms like actinomyces.  

DNA microarray supports in the bacterial genomic DNA generally survives the viability of the bacteria and a diagnosis can be done by using a small quantity of DNA. Henceforth, a sample of abscess can be sent not for sensitivity testing, but for DNA microarray analysis.  

Use of Microarray in Non-Cancer Application  

Microarray analysis has been extremely useful in antibiotic therapy, as bacterial genomic DNA outlasts the bacteria themselves most times. In such situations, DNA microarrays are commonly used, since a diagnosis can be done using a small DNA sample, as compared to the larger number of bacteria needed for culture in traditional methods. 

 In the past few years, DNA-based microarrays have developed as a tool for the measurement of genetic factor expression. This is mainly because of the low cost of usage, enabling this technology to be more reachable and standardized.
