The Italy electric scooter and motorcycle market generated $26.7 million in the year 2021, and in 2035, it is projected to rise to $707.1 million, progressing at approx. 30.5% rate from 2021 to 2025, and 24.4% from 2026 to 2035, and it is expected to experience the highest sales of electric scooters and motorcycles with a speed of more than 80 km per hour, with more than 35% rate from 2026 to 2035.

Electric scooters and motorcycles have seen a considerable boom in the world especially after the outbreak of the pandemic. The governments across the world are trying their level best to reduce the vehicular emissions, which play a big part in degrading the quality of the air.

Italy, just like the other countries of the world is trying to cut down on the emissions, linked with the efforts of the EU, which aims at reducing the GHG emissions, as a minimum of 55%, by the end of this decade.

There are some laws laid down by the national government for the users of electric scooters, and this blog will focus on the laws of e-scooters, as it is used more in Italy than electric motorcycles.

As per the Italian legislative text, which was amended on the 17th February 2022, all electric scooters marketed by the country should have brake lights and indicators on both wheels of the scooter. This was applicable from October 2022.

And for the e-scooters, which are already in circulation, the last date to get them equipped with the indicators and brake lights is January 1st 2024.

Who All are Covered Under this Law?

This rule is applicable to the e-scooters and motorcycle manufacturers, who want to market these electric two-wheelers in the nation. The scooters sold after October 2022, should have brake lights and indicators as per the directive.

Why Indicators and Brake Lights on Both Wheels?

The aim of this law is to provide utmost safety to the drivers of the e-scooters, and with the help of indicators and back lights ion both the wheels, these vehicles will be visible to both of the people, who are in the rear and also the front of the vehicle.

E- Motorcycles also Hurling on the Roads of Italy

The rule wants that when the driver decides to put the brakes on or take a turn, their direction should be visible to the other people on the road.

The law nowhere mentions the inclusion of electric motorcycles, but only scooters. But it does not mean that there are no or a few e-motorcycles on the road.
