The regular season opener of the 2024 MLB World Tour Seoul Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres took place at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul on Tuesday.

The MLB Secretariat is conducting the world tour to globalize baseball. The Seoul Series will be the ninth MLB regular season opener outside of baseball's home country of the United States.

Since 1999, Monterrey, Mexico, has hosted MLB Opening Day in Tokyo, Japan, San Juan, Puerto Rico (2001), and Sydney, Australia (2014). Tokyo has hosted five times: 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2019.

Fans wearing baseball jerseys and hats gathered in front of the Gocheok Dome about five hours before the opening game between the Dodgers and San Diego on Tuesday. Some fans lined up at the entrance to catch a glimpse of the big leaguers.

Security at the stadium was tighter than on other days. More than 250 local police, police commandos, and criminal SWAT teams were deployed to the stadium after reports of a threat to harm Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani 스포츠토토 and others by detonating a high-powered bomb at the Gocheok Dome.

The Dodgers and San Diego players took up residence in both dugouts to ensure normal play. The Dodgers used the home dugout, while San Diego used the visiting dugout.

The opening game also featured a passionate cheer that captivated the major leaguers. The KBO players' chants echoed through the Gocheok Dome as the big league hitters took the field. The cheerleaders and cheerleaders showed off their enthusiasm to the chants.

The winner of the historic opener was the Dodgers. The Dodgers won 5-2 behind five innings of two-run ball from starter Tyler Glasnow and a two-run shot from Ohtani.
