Tottenham Hotspur want to offload Emerson Royale and sign AS Monaco's Van Dijk.
"Tottenham are interested in Monaco right-back Van der Sar, with one of their options only if Emerson leaves the club," European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano said on Sunday (ET).
Emerson is a Brazilian right-back. In his time in Spain, he was a fullback with a high level of play on both sides of the ball. He is known for his overwhelming physical abilities. His physicality and speed allow him to overwhelm opposing wingers, and his Barcelona background allows him to link up well.
Emerson made his debut in the English Premier League (EPL) in a Tottenham jersey ahead of the 2021-22 season. After a strong first season, Emerson's form has declined since last season. This season, he only made 22 league appearances. Eventually, Tottenham decided to sell him.
We already have a replacement. It's Monaco's Vandersong. Vander Song is a Brazilian right back. He"s an aggressive fullback with a long overlapping run that"s common in modern soccer. For a Brazilian, he"s got very good footwork and his crosses are very sharp.
Vandersong joined the youth team of União Rondonopolis in 2012. He then moved to Rio Branco and then to Gremio's youth team. He made his professional debut at the end of 2020 and has been a regular in the first team since the 2021 season. In June 2021, he signed a new contract with Gremio until 2025.

In the middle of this season, Vandersloot signed a new contract with Monaco until June 2028. Despite this, the interest from big clubs hasn't waned, with Tottenham currently the most active club in the race to sign him. Spurs have identified him as a possible replacement for Emerson.
This season, Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League and failed to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League due to a lack of backup fullbacks. With Pedro Foro and Destiny Udoji out, Emerson was the only option available to replace them, and he disappointed every time he appeared.
Eventually, Spurs realized the need for a backup fullback. If Vandersloot moves to Spurs, he will most likely play opposite Son Heung-min, but there is also the possibility that he could play alongside Son at left fullback as a backup to Udoji.
