Air waybills are essential documents that allow you to track the status of your shipment. Issued by airlines, freight forwarders and consolidators such as Mercury, they contain information regarding your shipment as well as adherence with international conventions and norms.

An air waybill contains an 11-digit number to track your shipment; this code is known as House Airway Bill Oman or HAWB.

Documentation

If you are shipping goods by air cargo, the necessary documentation is absolutely essential to its success. Two essential documents for air cargo transportation are house airway bills (HAWBs) and master airway bills (MAWBs), both of which include information such as shipper, consignee and description of cargo as well as terms and conditions of carriage. If in doubt about which documents are necessary for your shipment please speak with your shipping agent or freight forwarder immediately.

An airway bill is a document that proves a contract of carriage for air shipments, including airline, flight number and airport of departure/arrival information for your shipment as well as weight/dimension information and an Airway Bill Number (AWB Number) that allows easy tracking.

An airway bill (AWB) may be issued by either a freight forwarder/consolidator, an airline, or both. AWBs are usually utilized to ship consolidated cargo, although individual consignments may also use this form. Both types are administered as per IATA conventions such as Warsaw Convention, Hague-Visby Rules and Montreal Convention and include eight color-coded copies printed for different uses – each having different purposes and purposes of use.

Consignor

House Airway Bills (HAWBs) are transport documents used when shipping goods by plane. Prepared by an agent of the airline responsible for cargo shipment, these bills provide details regarding shipment as well as terms and conditions of carriage that can help protect consignors in case of loss or damage during transport.

Documents known as airway bills or master airway bills provide details about shipments that allow airlines to track them during transport, including flight details of aircraft carrying them. All international shipments require such documents that have been signed off on by either their carrier or his designated agent.

When shipping goods abroad, it’s essential that the freight forwarder you select is qualified and capable of managing all necessary documentation. Mercury Freight Forwarders is an experienced and dependable freight forwarder offering HAWBs quickly. The consignor is responsible for sending their goods to an airfreight agent for safe transport, and making sure it arrives at its final destination in good condition. In turn, airfreight agents have an obligation to ensure their consignee receives them safely.

Consignee

Consignee of a house airway bill refers to the person or company receiving goods being shipped; thus it’s essential that their information be accurate and timely in order to receive accurate shipping details. An airway bill is a non-negotiable transport document used for cargo moving between airports; issued by airlines with multiple copies so as to facilitate tracking, tracing and status determination of each shipment.

The Air Waybill (AWB) contains essential details of the shipment, such as its origin and destination, terms and conditions of carriage, flight details that carry the cargo, and special instructions that detail how these goods must be handled.

In consolidated airfreight shipments, an airline typically issues a master air waybill (MAWB). However, freight forwarders will still issue house airway bills (HAWBs). A HAWB serves as an internal document which confirms both shipper’s details as well as payment status of each consignment; when picking up goods from an airline based on this document.

Carrier

Airway bills are transport documents used as proof of receipt and contract for carriage by airlines, with each carrier offering different airway bill types to meet different shipping needs. You can select either a master airway bill (MAWB) or house airway bill (HAWB), both essential documents when shipping overseas goods. Mercury can help provide all the documentation you require on time – contact us now to learn more!

Freight forwarder A accepts cargo from exporter X and transfers the goods to C, a main carrier, after completing all export customs formalities. C then issues an airway bill directly to Y in New York – A’s Airway Bill to X is known as House Airway Bill while C issues another airway bill called Master Airway Bill MAWB for this transaction.

House Airway Bill (HAWB) must match the number provided to a carrier; both numbers and commodity descriptions on Consol List MFST must also match. Likewise, name and address information regarding Shipper/Consignee should appear on both forms; in the event that a forwarder transmits directly to carrier, then a FIRMS Code should also be submitted with Customs Pouch as part of Partial Shipment preparations.
